Annually many cities in the world – especially those that are centers of tourism – celebrate International Tourist Guide Day. It was created to draw attention of the general public to the important and significant work of guides. This year it will take place in Germany once again. It means that you will have the opportunity to join guided tours throughout the country for free. It will be on 18 and 19 February. It is difficult to say when this profession appeared, but it is obvious that it is connected with the development of international relations. Since people began to travel, visit different countries, it became difficult for them to do it without the help of professional guides. It should also be noted that the work of the guide is very important in the development of tourism in the country, because an interesting and fascinating excursion will leave guests only positive impressions and tourists will want to visit the county again. During International Tourist Guide Day various conferences are usually held. People are gathering and discussing problems and prospects for the development of tourism.
Since 1990 International Tourist Guide Day has been celebrated all over the world, and since 1999 it has been celebrated in Germany. The theme of the event is another each year. The main aim is to offer free guided tours to show the job of tour guides, and their professionalism and skills.
This year’s event related to the 500th anniversary of the Reformation and its motto is ‘Reform – time for a change’. Besides being related to faith and the Church, it relates to the other areas such as architecture, art, politics and society, which are explored during guided tours.
You can go on guided tours and visit churches, museums throughout Germany. Don’t miss this unique opportunity!
